Seven Faces of Viktor Petrov
Exhibitions
On October 10, 2024, the 130th anniversary of the birth of Viktor Platonovych Petrov (V. Domontovych) is commemorated. Viktor Petrov (aliases: V. Domontovych, Viktor Ber, 1894–1969) was one of the most prominent Ukrainian prose writers and scholars of the 20th century. Those who personally knew Petrov described him as an extremely well-educated man, a world-class scholar who was ahead of his time. His life turned out to be extremely complex: an archaeologist, ethnographer, philosopher, and writer, who, due to certain circumstances, became a Soviet agent and spy.
The purpose of the exhibition is to acquaint Ukrainians with Viktor Petrov – his biography, which is more reminiscent of a detective novel, the conditions of the time in which he lived, and most importantly – the contribution he managed to make to the development of Ukrainian literature and scholarship in the 20th century.
The exhibition features original photographs, books, journals by Viktor Petrov, items from the archaeological excavations he participated in, and unpublished documents related to his espionage activities.
